Currently trying to learn the ways of 3D & Rendering, although I know I still have a long road ahead (but, hey, 5 months ago I didn't even know how to make a cube in Max :/).
The idea was to make a scene that looked plausible and more or less felt real. Most architectural rendering is usually hi-design cool stuff that makes you drool all over your keyboard (which I hope I can do some day, btw ), but for now I just wanted to do something that people could point and say: "hey, I could have that in my house" (don't know if I've managed it).
There are a lot of things, materials and so with which I'm not happy yet and I'll try to improve on future works. Also, I know it's kinda noisy but, well, can't help it for now (wish I had a faster PC ).
Anyway, feel free to comment.
3DS Max, Maxwell Render & Photoshop.
P.S: I appologise for every copyright thing I've placed in there (hope nobody wants to sue me! )
I think its an excellent render. Don't try to completely remove the noise - if your render is to "clean" it won't actually look as photo real. A lot of previs artists will actually add noise and chromatic aberration in photoshop to give it that photo look. Nice choice of materials and one point lighting. Only issue I have is that atm I keep looking at the pot plant in the corner because it is the brightest part of your scene. Be careful to check where your lighting creates points of interest.
Indeed, I'm aware that a bit of noise actually gives a more "real photo" feeling; the issue is that, you know, some materials do take a lot more to render than others, so in the end you have things that are well defined and others that are quite grainy, that's what I ment for "noise" (which, btw, drives me crazy ). Also, thanks for the advice about the highlights. Tbh, I'm still fighting myself with all the histogram and lightning thing . I'll try to pay more attention to that kind of details in the future

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.
This is so neat! I always wanted to learn 3D Max since I played a lot with "Bryce". But once I got it, I gave up after a few hours. But that was like 5 years ago. Maybe I should try again Do you have any starters for me? Like, how did you learn it at the beginning?

Well, tbh I started with 3D Studio's very own tutorials . You can learn pretty much the basics from there: poly modeling, uv mapping. etc... Then I think you really can "start" learning: in my case I sort of started wandering around the house picking up things from shelves and trying to model them, and copying furniture (either my own or from photos). Anyway, I think this is pretty similar to learning to draw or paint: the key is to practice A LOT (I'm currently in a "monkey see, monkey do" sort of stage where I look up for photos and try to use them as reference and make my own version of it ). Also, a very good source nowadays for tutorials and so is, of course, YouTube (you can find basic and easy tutorials for more "advanced" techniques like, I don't, spline cage modeling or the like, so give it a try).
Don't know if any of this may help you in any way (I've got a lot to lean yet ) but, nevertheless, give it and try and don't give up

and for one of your first pieces you really seem to have mastered good lighting and materials!
great job on this
